The Future of Algebraic Modeling in Python
Combining the high-performance GAMS system with the flexibility of Python, GAMSPy provides an intuitive and efficient way to develop complex mathematical models.
With GAMSPy, you can easily create abstract, data-independent models while handling sparse data structures –all while managing the entire optimization pipeline from Python. Controlling the full process within a single, versatile environment makes GAMSPy an ideal resource for teaching, learning, and conducting research.
GAMSPy also performs a lot better with larger models than many alternatives, which means it’s a great tool for those working on complex projects.
Plus, with a free GAMSPy License, anyone in academia can access commercial solvers. More info on licensing and available solvers is available below.
GAMSPy is open source. Find out how to get started on the GAMSPy product page.
The modeling system used by domain experts
GAMS is a powerful modeling language designed for building and solving large-scale, complex mathematical models with ease. Renowned for its clarity and efficiency, GAMS allows users to develop highly structured, data-independent models that can be easily scaled and adapted.
GAMS is trusted by researchers and professionals worldwide for its robustness and flexibility.
Downloads are available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
The Open Source Application Generator for GAMS and GAMSPy Models
GAMS MIRO (Model Interface with Rapid Orchestration) is a solution that makes it easy to turn your GAMS and GAMSPy models into interactive end user applications that you can distribute to your colleagues and even host on a webserver.
The user friendly interface allows you to interact with the underlying GAMS model, quickly create different scenarios, compare results and much more. MIRO's extensive data visualization capabilities provide you with the ability to create powerful charts, time series, maps, widgets, etc. with ease.
GAMS MIRO is open source and free for all academic users!

Free Academic Licenses
FreeAcademic GAMSPy Licenses
Unlock advanced modeling in Python with our free Academic GAMSPy licenses. Enjoy unrestricted access with no size limitations, valid for 12 months, and easily renewable through our academic user portal.
Open Source Solvers: Full access to all available open-source solvers.
Commercial Solvers: Integrated licenses for select commercial solvers, including CPLEX, COPT, and MOSEK. Additionally, link-licenses are available for GUROBI and XPRESS.
Note: Commercial solvers included with GAMSPy licenses are exclusively for use with GAMSPy and are not compatible with GAMS.
FreeGAMS Community Licenses
Our GAMS Community License offers access to the GAMS tool chain with model size restrictions.
Linear Models (LP, MIP, RMIP): Up to 5,000 variables and 5,000 constraints.
All Other Model Types: Up to 2,500 variables and 2,500 constraints.
These licenses come with the same restrictions as our demo license, including additional solver-imposed limits, a 12-month time limitation and a requirement for using a recent version of the GAMS system.
Free Academic License Types
Both, Free Academic GAMSPy, and GAMS Community licenses are available in two technical flavours:
Node Licenses:
- Activate on up to 2 fixed nodes (e.g. a laptop and a PC).
- Unlimited concurrent usage.
- No internet connection required during use.
Network Licenses:
- Activate on up to 2 concurrent, changeable nodes.
- Unlimited concurrent usage on licensed nodes.
- Requires internet access during use.
